The Mexico Surf Film Festival returns for its fourth edition in 2027, solidifying its place as a key platform for surf culture and coastal cinema on Mexico's Pacific coast. Born in 2024 from a simple idea by local surfers and filmmakers, the festival has grown rapidly into an internationally recognized event that blends film screenings, community activities, and the essence of beach lifestyle.

Dates and Venues
The festival will take place from March 4–7, 2027, expanding to four days for the first time. The main venues are Playa La Saladita (March 4–5) and Zihuatanejo (March 6–7), both located in the Costa Grande region of Guerrero. This setup creates a coastal circuit, leveraging two of the region's most renowned surf destinations .

Program and Activities
The event goes beyond typical red-carpet screenings. The program includes outdoor film screenings in beach and community spaces, showcasing short films from around the world. Additional activities feature filmmaker meet-and-greets, children's workshops, talks with cinematographers, surf exhibitions, and local gastronomic experiences. The closing ceremony and awards presentation will be held in Zihuatanejo .

Focus and Selection
The festival accepts short films up to 15 minutes exploring surfing, beach culture, coastal exploration, or ocean conservation. It seeks stories that delve into the human connection with the sea and coastal communities, not just action compilations. Award categories include Best International Short Film, Hecho en México, Talento Guerrero, and Ocean's Message, with a prize pool exceeding 65,000 pesos .

Submission and Participation
The international call for entries remains open to filmmakers of any nationality. Submissions are made through FilmFreeway and are free for Mexican filmmakers. The regular deadline is October 31, 2026, with an extended deadline of November 30. Selected films will be announced on January 5, 2027.
