Plastic pollution is one of the primary threats to our planet.
In the United States, less than 6% of post-consumer plastic is recycled. The rest of this plastic waste ends up in landfills, along roadsides or in our rivers and oceans.
Better sorting of recyclables at home would help, but the fact is that not all plastic or other materials that we think of as recyclable can actually be recycled.
A better solution is to REDUCE OUR USE.
Film Highlight: 'Evidence of Us'
Azulita’s short documentary ‘Evidence of Us’ reveals the long shadow of pollution, overconsumption and waste cast by plastic use. From the bottom of the Grand Canyon to our oceans to our own backyards, this short documentary directed by QMedia questions what it means to be good stewards of our shared home.
Our National Parks and Monuments are experiencing record visitation numbers. But as we encourage the public to experience these treasures, increased use has created an escalation in litter and plastic microtrash. ‘Evidence of Us’ investigates how legislative measures could provide lasting protection to these landscapes while creating a culture shift towards a Leave No Trace ethic founded on minimizing our footprint, reducing consumption and using reusable products.

The data YOU collect will contribute to a report that unveils the materials, items, and brands of waste found in national parks, and help us advise on legislation that keeps harmful single-use plastic out of our protected spaces.

The Azulita Project was born from the desire to create a healthier and more environmentally sustainable world. We focus on reducing plastic use and waste in the communities of Flagstaff, Arizona, USA and Los Llanos, Guerrero, Mexico.

The Lomi Composter check-out kit is available to Flagstaff schools and community groups for free weekly rental.
Azulita collects, cleans and recirculates reusable cloth bags for use at Flagstaff markets, events and businesses.
Volunteers with the Azulita Project's recapture program in Guerrero, Mexico, help keep plastic out of the Pacific Ocean.
