Something To Think About When You Return...

Covers Something To Think About When You Return

We see today the fragile nature of both Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and the balance of the Yucatan peninsula. Many, many local people are suffering as this crisis plays out. Many businesses will not be there when you return. With the help of various efforts, help is being given to those in need, but the businesses are in great need as well.

In this social media world of ours, "reviews" are a popular outlet for either good or bad experiences when visiting. I for one am not a big fan for several reasons. I think it was from the movie Bambi, "if ya can't say nothin good, don't say nothin at all." When traveling it is an experience, a foreign country, and while I am not excusing poor service, more often than not it may be an underlying situation you may be unaware of, or a custom, or often an attitude. Service may not be what you are used to at home, or for example in Mexico, a bill for your meal is typically not brought to your table unless you request it. Please and thank you go a long way, as does respect.

A great review goes a long way for a small business in these tourist dependent communities, but a bad review goes much, much further. Maybe in the future, if you have an experience not to your liking, deal with it in a different way. Think of how your poor review may affect the family and workers.

Not everything is perfect, and while traveling, it is the ebb and flow which is the beauty. It is the experience, something very different than your norm. Enjoy your travel, prepare for things that may be different, and handle graciously those experiences that may not be to your liking. Think of what a bad "review" may do for those who for the most part want nothing more than to make your trip and experience in their community something special. They DO want you to return. Truly bad vendors regardless of what they may be will self destruct on their own, with or without your "review".

Be polite, grateful and thankful for your opportunity to travel, and always remember those who work diligently to welcome you to their home. Try your best to avoid the "bad review", it may hurt many more people than you intend it to, or who may have had nothing to do with the incident.
